Hike

The Orchard Cabin is within a few miles of Willoughby State Forest. Both Mount Pisgah and Mount Hor have marked trails with gorgeous views of the mountains of the Northeast Kingdom as well as Lake Willoughby. Mount Haystack is another option. Pack your backpack with lunch and drinks and make a day of it.

A short walk to Sentinel Rock State Park is rewarded with incomparable sunset views of the mountains to the west.

Sentinal Rock

Sentinel Rock is about 1.5 miles from the Orchard Cabin. The view is from Coles Mountain to rolling mountain peaks out to the west as far as the eye can see. This is one of the best spots to enjoy the sunset in the area. Click Here to view a trail map.

Willoughby State Forest Mount Pisgah and Hor

Willoughby State Forest encompasses Mount Pisgah and Hor as well as 12 .6 miles of networked trails. These hikes up are fairly rigorous and rewarded with incomparable mountain and lake views. If you're up for it, don't miss the opportunity to hike the two mountains that cradle Lake Willoughby.

Newark Pond Natural Area

Visit this picturesque nesting sight of the Common Loon. Walk the gentle 1.1 mile loop. Bring lunch and make it a day.

Haystack Mountain

Mount Haystack trail is a 1.9 mile steep hike with the pinnacle offering views of Long Pond, Lake Willoughby, and the surrounding area.
